Dehumidifier
Get Rid of Moisture Fast
A
dehumidifier, often regarded as an air conditioner, eliminates
moisture in the air through its coils. The dehumidifier has both
hot and cold coils, plus a fan that can condense the moisture
generated by the cold coils in the air conditioner. The air will
then pass through the hot coil to restore its original temperature,
and it will come out as dry air.
Incorrect balance in humidity can cause many problems. It can
induce dry or itchy skin in many people. One may also experience
the sensation of having a blocked nasal passage. Aside from that,
air that has too little moisture can damage furniture by creating
cracks in its surfaces.
Too humid air can also cause the same problems for the skin and
for the nose. A room can also have foggy windows due to continuous
condensation, as well as growth of molds and rotting of wooden
furniture.
In selecting the appropriate one, keep in mind these costs:
1. It is possible to have a dehumidifier that is actually a heat
pump. Because it is limited, they can be more complex than your
average dehumidifier. However, they are very affordable, especially
in the spring. You can get a dehumidifier for 50 to 100 dollars
less than its actual cost.
2. A good dehumidifier has a two-speed fan. These give off less
noise and lower humidity, which may have an effect of lessening its
efficiency factor. Be sure to inspect the unit before purchasing
it. If you plan on placing the dehumidifier near bedrooms, take
into account the noise it can produce.
3. Consider the size of your home when buying a dehumidifier.
For houses that are smaller and are reasonably resistant to
moisture, buy a machine that has a rating of 10 L (2.1. imperial
gallons or 21 U.S. pints) per day. The prices for these are usually
200 to 250 dollars for each unit. For big houses or townhouses, buy
one that has a rating of 20 L (4.2 imperial gallons or 42 U.S.
pints) per day. These are usually 250 to 300 dollars for each
unit.
4. Chemical absorbent dehumidifiers are not recommended because
these are only appropriate for areas with hot climates.
5. Be sure to check the Efficiency Factor (EF) of your unit.
These can provide information as to the machine’s cost of
operation. You can find these in the brochures that come with the
unit. The operations manual can also give you an idea of how to
compute for the EF. The EF information can also be found on the
machine itself, usually at the back of the section where a water
collection bucket can be found.
It’s best to select the right dehumidifier for your home through
scrutinizing the reputation of the seller, the quality of the unit,
and the guarantee and warranty that comes with the product.
